Abstract

Bioinformatics has provided invaluable tools that revolutionised biological research and paved way to novel insights. The collaborative efforts amid biologists and data scientists have ensued data-driven discoveries and the clinical translation of these discoveries deem progressing. Various national and international initiatives on bioinformatics and big data have been fruitful in combating the challenges associated with the use of bioinformatics and computational biology in life science research.

    Chithra J S is presently Senior Scientist at the Dept of Research & Innovation at Dr Moopens Medical College, Wayanad, Kerala. She with an enthusiastic team of researchers, in the pursuit of extracting bioactive compounds from marine resources to develop Nutra-cosmeceuticals, has founded Posei-Derma which is currently incubated at the Dept of Zoology, University of Kerala. Chithra received her Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology, India, and her MSc from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, India. She has been selected for research fellowships by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, and has papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and books to her credit. She also worked as a senior scientist at Next Big Innovation Labs, Bangalore, India in the domain of 3D-bioprinting of organs.

    Asha Nair S is Scientist G, at Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, India. Obtained MSc Zoology and PhD for her research on Tumor Biology from University of Kerala. She was Research Fellow at Dept of Surgical Oncology, Massachusetts General Hospital,Harvard Medical School, Harvard University; and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Dept of Experimental Therapeutics, MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston. Has numerous publications to her credit and was involved in getting patent titled ‘Novel porphyritic derivatives for photodynamic therapy (PDT): A process for the preparation and thereof and their use as PDT agents and fluorescence probes for biological applications’ to her credit. Was honored with fellowships and awards by ICMR, International CME, MAC 2011 Conference NUS,Singapore, Carcinogenesis Foundation and DST, Govt. of India, Is a member/Life member of Society of Biological Chemists, Indian Association for Cancer Research (IACR), Society for Biotechnologists-India, KAS and AACR
